New, more powerful logs search

by David Simpson

Note: New to logging in Tray? No worries! Here's a handy new tutorial video to get you started.

Deeper, more precise searching

Today we're really excited to announce the launch of our brand new interface for searching logs. We've made searching way more powerful and built a new search UI to guide you through constructing search queries.

Search at both the run and step levels

Our new search syntax means that you can either search for any run that fits your criteria or you can specify a step that needs to match. For example, you can search for any run in which any step has failed or only show runs in which the trigger has failed.

New search properties

You can now search based on a number of properties:

Date and Time

A date/time picker lets you find logs within a specific time frame. Need to check on a user who you know submitted a form an hour ago? You can now conveniently zero in on that processing.

Success and Failure

You can search for successful executions (and steps) as well as failures. If you need to find examples of bad input breaking your workflow it's now much easier to show all of the failures and drill down into the problem.

Input and Output

The most sophisticated search is around the input and output of steps. You can specify which step you want to have a certain output or use wildcards for a more generic search. If you know the ID of a user and want to find when that ID is saved to data storage you can construct a query to return the exact step.

And that's not all...

We've increased the length of time that we can store logs to 30 days so you can have better insight into how your workflows are behaving. Also, we've ensured that you can still use a free text search over the keys and values in step input/output.

See what all the fuss is about

We've recorded a new tutorial video which is a great introduction to Tray's logging capabilities. If you want more detailed information about Tray's logging interface you should read our documentation.
